Hello my name is Justin, and i’m an alcoholic….

Probably not what you were expecting was it!! However I want to be honest with you, about who I am and what I'm about . I’ve battled alcohol for 20 + years, and as of now i’m 3 1/2 years sober! I am also a widower. I lost my amazing, loving wife Kim on August 22nd 2020 due to liver and kidney failure caused by alcohol among other health issues. After losing Kim I had a decision to make, to keep drinking or to get sober. To let life pass me by or to make something of myself. I chose to get sober!! It’s been an incredibly hard road, but one that I will never regret! I know in my heart and soul that Kim is proud of the decision I made, and has helped me on this journey, and will help me to stay strong as I follow my passion in life, photography. As a dedication to Kim, her initials KS are somewhere in every image I either post or print. Kim may not be here anymore in person, but she will always be with me. Im a better, stronger person now because of her!

“I didn’t pick up a camera to become a photographer, I picked up a camera to find myself".

In 99’ I had a relationship go south (to put it in nicer terms) I was done with everyone and everything. So I went over to Walmart and got me a camera, a Nikon N60, which I still have today. About a week later I went to the humane society and adopted a puppy, Named him “Nikon” From there Nikon and I headed up to the San Juan Mountains and I started teaching myself how to take pictures. I went through a LOT of film!! I was rewarded for my efforts in 1999, when I got one of my pictures “Survivor” published on the cover of the 99/2000 Durango phone book. I knew I was on the right path to finding myself.

Nikon and me.

One of the things I love most about photography is how an image that I took can put a smile on someone’s face. How it can take you back in time and remind you of a happy moment in life. Or how you can smell the picture, feel the picture. One of the most rewarding things to me is to see that smile on someone’s face because of an image that I took. I truly hope that I can put a smile on your face! Thank you for taking the time to get to know a little bit about me.

Justin.
